Pressed for Space

As the video clip demonstrates, it is always possible to find room for food storage, if you get creative enough. Like our furry friend, most members of our ward and stake listed SPACE as the biggest problem. What creative solutions have worked for you?

A friend of mine turned a broom closet into a very nice pantry by adding a few shelves. A student couple in a tiny apartment raised their bed up on cinder blocks, creating a sizable space for food storage. Others have covered stacks of boxes with cloth or other material to create end tables, TV stands, and other items of furniture.

Look around your home or apartment for unused spaces that might be used or modified for food storage. This could even be a good excuse
for finally cleaning out that closet or convincing your spouse to toss out some of those "treasures" you’ve been wishing would disappear.

Just remember that for longest shelf life, foods should be kept as cool, dry, and dark as possible. And be sure to keep those items that need to be rotated where you can get to them easily.

A many number of years ago, we bought something like this, and it is very portable, and can be used as furniture if necessary.

I am referring to 2 lovely large plastic cans that are filled with things you need for 72 hours, pick up and run if need be.
They are having a 15% off sale for a short while if you have the money and just need to get started. Just a thought. One can also get an idea from its contents and make your own.

Costco on-line has a shelf unit for cans just like the one seen at the beginning of this portion of the blog. It is much cheaper than the one sold by Self Reliance.
